BluAcres specializes in the design of ponds and lakes for private landowners. Properly designed ponds and lakes can be exceptional habitat for a variety of wildlife, including waterfowl, amphibians, reptiles, and fish species. They can also be designed to maximize aesthetic value, improving the worth and appeal of a property.
Whether you are planning to build a pond, tracking sedimentation, planning for dredging, or simply looking to understand the overall size, volume and bottom contour of your pond or lake in order to make good management decisions, we have the tools you need to be successful:
Pond Design
Pond and Lake Mapping
Aquatic Vegetation Mapping/Management
Bathymetric Mapping
Sedimentation Analysis
Pond Dredging Permits and Planning
Fishery Habitat Plans
Not all ponds are created equal. Let BluAcres design you a pond that is safe and will suit your needs; whether it be for recreation, fishing, water supply, or fire protection. BluAcres designs all its ponds in accordance with USDA – NRCS Conservation Practice 378 Pond Standard.
Understanding the exact surface area of your waterbody is one of the first steps in developing a lake or pond management plan. BluAcres utilizes RTK GPS survey equipment, Carlson Civil Suite Software, and satellite imagery to determine a waterbody’s surface area. It’s also important to identify the locations of the physical and structural components of your waterbody, such as inlet and outlet structures, fountains, aeration systems, and fish habitat.
Bathymetric or hydrographic mapping involves the use of integrated depth sensing sonar and GPS technology to create a three-dimensional model of your waterbody. As a result, BluAcres can develop a detailed contour map of your pond or lake and highly accurate volume calculations.
Accumulation of sediment on the bottom of your lake or pond is inevitable. However, the rate at which it will accumulate is highly variable, and in many instances within the control of the lake or pond owner. To accurately determine this sediment accumulation in your pond or lake, when it will need to be removed and the cost associated in doing so, bathymetry is a must. Data collected will serve as a baseline for pond owners and lake managers to help establish an accurate budget and timetable for potential dredging projects.
Dredging a pond area can present unique challenges for dredging because of access points and location of spoil areas. BluAcres can plan your pond dredging and assist with obtaining the necessary Federal, State, and Local Permits that are required to remove the sediments from your pond.
Planning for specific fish species to thrive in your pond? Utilize our knowledge of pond ecology to make sure your pond or lake has the cover, prey, temperature, dissolved oxygen, depth, and breeding areas they need to have a sustainable population.
